Hello!
I recently wrote a quick mini-haul about a few items I picked up recently. One of those items was a new pair of false eyelashes, and since I got a new pair, I figured it would be an opportune time to do a false eyelashes tutorial!
A lot of people stress out over false eyelashes, or think they are a lot more complicated than they really are. I promise, they are really easy once you get the hang out it! The most important thing to remember about them is that they do take practice. Most people cannot get them just right the very first time, but with every attempt, they do improve!
Another thing to keep in mind is that there are several different varieties of falsies.

The best advice I can give to someone just entering the world of false eyelashes, is to play around with them! Different styles can complete different looks - some can look completely natural while some will give red carpet lashes. It all depends on the look you are going for!
The lashes I am using today are from Sephora, and the style is "glam". They are varying short-long, thick, black lash.

Tutorial
1. The first step is to go ahead and complete all of your makeup, with the exception of mascara. If you don't normally wear eye liner, and this is your first time experimenting with false lashes, I would also encourage you to wear at least at thin line of eye liner on your upper lids. Once you get more comfortable with lining up the lashes this is not necessary, but I found it to be very helpful in camouflaging the falsies at first. I am not wearing any makeup currently, so in my photos that follow, you'll notice I am only wearing the lashes - this is because I am only doing a run-through for the tutorial. Normally, I would have my entire face finished before working with the lashes!
2. Once your makeup is set, you will take your false eyelashes out. Not all eyes are the same size or shape, so it is important to make sure your false lashes will fit your lash line! To do this, you will first remove one of the lashes from their case, and gently roll it back and forth to make it easier to work with.
After getting the lash pliable, you will then line it up with your eye - without glue! You are only measuring it. You will want the lash to line up with your outer corner, and just almost to the inner corner.
After measuring your lashes, you will then cut the excess amount - as you can see in the image above, the lashes are just barely took long. I cut off about 1/4 - 1/2 cm. from the ends. It is also important, when trimming them, to always cut off excess from the outer portion - the inner portion is always thinned or faded out to match your shorter natural eyelashes in your inner corner of your eye.
3. Once the lashes are trimmed to the right size, you will apply glue. Many false eyelash sets will include a small tube of glue, or you can buy larger tubes as well. You will want to spread a thin but consistent layer (as seen in the photo below) along the line of the lashes. After applying the glue, wait 30-40 seconds (don't rush it! This allows the glue to set so that the falsies won't slip all over your lid) until the glue becomes tacky.
4. After waiting 30-40 seconds, you will apply the lash to your eyelid. Some prefer applying the lashes with tweezers, but I have always found that I have more control over the false eyelashes when I use my fingers. You will start by placing the center first - gently, then apply a slight pressure when you are sure you have it lined up correctly. From there, line up the inner and outer corners as well. You do have about 5 - 10 seconds to manipulate the lash after placing it on your lid, so don't worry if you have to move it around a little bit!
5. After placing the eyelash, you may still be able to see a little bit of space between your natural lash line and the false lashes. This can happen to anyone, even those with a lot of experience! This is where the eyeliner can really be beneficial. Another trick to help make sure they blend with your natural lash line is (after the glue has completely dried - 2 to 3 minutes!) to take your eyelash curler, and get close but not quite to the base of the lashes, and press the false lashes and your natural lashes together. You can also do this with your fingers if you do not have eyelash curlers!
6. After you have the lashes where you want them and are satisfied, add a quick (and thin!) coat of mascara - and you are good to go! Below is a quick snap of how my lashes turned out, without any makeup (no mascara or eyeliner applied)
For comparison, this is my other eye; everything is the same, only without the false lash:
I love the change false lashes can add to an outfit - subtle, dramatic, or anywhere in between! I wore these lashes to a Christmas party on December 11th, which you can see in my OOTD/FOTD here. What do you all think of false lashes? Do you wear them often?
